Host a Party with a Purpose
About Jubilee Women’s Center
Jubilee supports women experiencing poverty to build stable and fulfilling futures, one extraordinary woman at a time.
Since 1983, Jubilee Women’s Center has supported women as they heal and transition out of poverty and homelessness. Jubilee’s three community-living residences, located in Capitol Hill and the University District, provide a safe, affordable and dignified environment for 42 women. Guided by a care manager, each Jubilee resident sets goals for growth and development and works to address the complex issues that caused their homelessness.
Jubilee is also a critical resource for more than 2,500 non-resident women each year, providing job readiness and financial management classes, technology and life skills training, an open computer lab, referral services, and a free clothing boutique to any low-income woman in need.
Why your help matters
Jubilee relies on community donations—financial, in-kind, women’s clothing and other high needs items—to benefit the women who come through our doors for housing and support services. Jubilee does not receive state or federal support; the individuals, foundations and corporations that contribute to our organization make all the difference. Even if you’re just spreading the word about the work of Jubilee to your personal and professional networks, you are doing us a great service!
It’s as easy as you want it to be!
Hosting a benefit event is a wonderful way to engage a work group, friends and family, professional organization, sorority or fraternity, neighborhood, school or faith community around a social, team-building and charitable giving opportunity. It can be as easy as hosting a clothing drive or asking attendees to bring a designated item to your party, to a more elaborate event, such as a concert or special sale that donates a portion of its proceeds to Jubilee.
Ideas for benefit events
Here are some ideas and tips to help you get started:
Bake sale, lemonade stand, car wash: Good old-fashioned fundraisers that suit a range of ages.
Pancake breakfast, spaghetti dinner: Ask guests for a “suggested donation.”
Yard sale: Clean out your stuff and raise money for a good cause.
Personal fundraising page: Tell your contacts why Jubilee is important to you and ask them to help you support the organization.
Give instead of gift: Ask for donations to Jubilee in your honor instead of gifts for holidays, birthdays, weddings, etc.
Toilet paper drive: Popular with students!
Feminine products drive: Popular with women who don’t get embarrassed easily!
Women’s clothing drive: Ask co-workers to bring in their no-longer needed business and casual women’s clothing and accessories for donation to Jubilee’s free clothing boutique to help a low-income woman build a quality wardrobe.
Cocktail or dinner party “friendraiser”: Invite a few people for a private party and an opportunity to hear from Jubilee representatives. Or host a similar event at a winery, coffee shop, restaurant, or other venue that would be of interest to your group.
Benefit sale: Donate a percentage of each purchase of a designated item to Jubilee.
Benefit show: Donate a percentage of ticket sales to Jubilee.
