Sister Margaret O’Neill, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace—the founders of Jubilee Women’s Center—died peacefully on June 8 in Bellevue, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to those experiencing poverty.
Sister Margaret and other Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace were among the first in Seattle to advocate for longer-term housing and support programs to break the cycle of poverty for women experiencing homelessness. Out of this vision, Jubilee was born in 1983.
Thirty-five years later, Jubilee Women’s Center operates as an independent nonprofit, but it carries on the vision of Sister Margaret and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace: providing supportive community living, holistic care, and a path out of poverty through living-wage employment and stable housing. We are honored to continue our work in the spirit of women like Sister Margaret and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace community.
