benefit breakfast
| See How We Shine, the theme of this year’s Benefit Breakfast, perfectly described not just the light of personal growth of our current and former residents, but also the light of a generous community joining together to support Jubilee’s important work. Nearly 600 guests gathered to support and celebrate that work on Tuesday, October 6 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel in downtown Seattle. Emceed by KOMO 4 News’ Kathi Goertzen, the breakfast was an inspiration to guests and a success for Jubilee Women’s Center. The event began as a strong, beautiful solo voice rose up above the pleasant greetings and conversations, and guests quickly hushed to hear Francine, a current resident at Jubilee, sing a touching and heartfelt rendition of ”His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” Next, guests watched an original video production by Matt Chernicoff, highlighting the theme See How We Shine. The uplifting piece featured current residents who shared the many ways in which they shine – for their communities, for their families, and for themselves. Following the video, we met another current Jubilee resident, Elena. An eloquent 29-year-old college graduate, employed full-time as a barista, Elena reminded us that society’s stereotypes of the homeless can be false. Struggling with anxiety, depression, and an unresolved family history of substance abuse, Elena became unable to afford her Seattle-area rent. In July, she came to live at Jubilee and is now feeling more hopeful about her future. She’s learning new skills, building a stronger foundation and developing a healthier sense of self. A former resident, Tracey, also shared her story of growth through her experience at Jubilee. After moving to Seattle to pursue her education in architecture, Tracey struggled to make ends meet. She spoke of the day she first visited Jubilee and began the process of finding more stability. Tracey’s experience at Jubilee provided her with a lasting stabilizing influence, which she still draws on as she meets the challenges of career and life today. Both women received standing ovations for sharing such poignant and personal reflections. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, Jubilee raised over $250,000 to support our mission. All proceeds of the annual Benefit Breakfast allow Jubilee to continue to provide homeless and low-income women a safe and supportive place to live and an opportunity to learn while becoming self-reliant in housing and employment. Thank you to all who attended this event – together we truly do shine! ![]() |
