Instilling community service to children is something that St. Joseph's School does very well, so it was onl
y natural to extend an invitation to the St. Joe's 8th graders to provide community meals to Jubilee's residents. The generosity of the 25+ 8th graders and their families resulted in 6 community meals spread throughout the month. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the extra energy in the kitchen and the wonderful food the kids created. Everyone involved enjoyed the additional time spent with their friends, but also recognized the importance of simply providing and sharing a meal with the wonderful women at Jubilee.
Community meals can be provided by anyone and help to defray the expensive cost of food for the women. The majority of the women's income goes toward paying their very low monthly program fee, ranging from $150-$350 depending on income. Lots of great questions were asked during the tours and everyone was incredibly attentive to learn about the history of the center, as well as the importance of Jubilee's volunteers and community support.
With the St. Joe's 8th graders' combined 6 community meals, they provided over 200 individual meals for all 34 residents! That’s a lot of tacos, pulled pork, salads, beverages and desserts! Thank you graduating 8th grade students and parents. We hope many of you will remember Jubilee in the future and return with new friends, to share another meal with the incredible ladies of Jubilee. Congratulations!
