When I heard I was getting furloughed due to the COVID-19 quarantine, it was stressful in the beginning, then I learned I’d still be getting paid. It’s a reduced amount, but I can still pay my rent and bills. I feel fortunate, but to be honest, I miss working. I enjoy my work and the people I work with, and I don’t do well with long stretches of isolation. Some days my morale was so low it was hard to get out of bed. I knew I needed to do something to keep myself moving forward.
I took the time to work on things that feed into my long-term goals, things I didn’t have time to do when I was working full time. I’m taking a business class about entrepreneurship and starting my own business. As part of that, I’m also studying about nutrition and foods that heal.
My self-talk is more positive than it used to be. I keep reminding myself that no matter how hard it is and how bad I feel, I’m not going back to the way life was before. I know, now, that I have people I can reach out to, and I know how to keep myself moving forward. I’m not alone.
